Albanian People’s Advocate has appealed to the authorities to show constraint after the violent clashes between the police and residents of the Astir area in Tirana, where 12 persons have been injured. The People’s Advocate has called for maturity and guaranteeing the citizen’s right.

The Albanian government is decided to pull down houses and businesses shops to make space for the new city ring road. The residents have been protesting for over a year now and today police used teargas to make them leave their houses.

“The People’s Advocate appeals to the authorities to avoid the conflict with the citizens, not to implement a fait accompli policy and not exceed their competences through an unjustified zeal, especially in the circumstances when the issue that generated the conflict hasn’t been clarified yet”, the People’s Advocate said in a statement, also appealing to the international community to monitor and help to calm down the situation.
