Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha said the opposition is ready to go to earlier elections even tomorrow if needed. In an interview with the television Vizion Plus, Basha said the Albanian opposition is capable to protect the votes of the citizens. The Democrat leader is convinced Albania needs snap elections even more than North Macedonia after the failure to open membership negotiations with the European Union.

“Our only condition, for which we have battled, is to have guarantees for the votes of the citizens”, Basha said, adding that it could be reached “by guaranteeing the minimum electoral standards, for the Democratic Party and its allies have proposed a number of measures”.

Asked whether he would be ready to dialogue with Albanian Premier Edi Rama, Basha said the opposition wanted dialogue.

“We never excluded dialogue. But it is another thing to sit only to exploit our good will as it happened in 2017, where the opposition’s good will to put Albania’s interest above our politic interests was used for propaganda”, Basha said. “We signed an agreement which was not put to life”.
