Albanian acting Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj has blackmailed the foreign minister of EU member countries by remembering them “the strategic rivals” in the Western Balkans should they not open the accession negotiations with Albania. Cakaj’s warning came only hours before the EU minister decide whether they will open the negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia. The Albanian minister tweeted a decision not to open the negotiations would undermine European Union’s credibility and risk boosting the strategic rivals, implying Russia and Turkey.
“Today the EU faces a historic choice. Today's decision will be a test of EU’s ability to deliver on its promises and look to the future. Albania has undertaken ambitious and courageous judicial reforms becoming a trailblazer in the region. Now is the time to open accession talks. Another delay could slow/derail progress and reforms, undermine EU’s credibility and risk boosting strategic rivals in the Western Balkans. This is the hour of Europe. We don't need a narrow, insular, inward-looking and disengaged EU, but one that is open, fair and a beacon of hope in troubled times”, Cakaj tweeted.
