On UNESCO’s World Teachers’ Day, October 5, the head of the Albanian Independent Unions of Pre-University Education, Nevrus Kaptelli, says there is a serious lack of attention for the teachers from the Albanian government in last six years.
Speaking for the Albanian daily Shekulli, Kaptelli said the teachers are under unusual pressure to keep their jobs, in addition to low wages and bad conditions of teaching infrastructure.
“The situation has gone worse every year. The education in Albania is no longer a priority. The government did not keep its promise to give 5% of the budget to the education. Now it is lower than it was six years ago”, Kaptelli said, adding that “teachers are afraid they could be fired any day due to the decrease of the number of pupils”.
