Albanian President Ilir Meta gave today legal and Constitutional arguments related to the draft-opinion of the Venice Commission concerning his Presidential Degree for the postponement of June 30 local elections and the initiative of the Socialist majority in the parliament to dismiss the President of the Republic.

In a public letter addressed to the President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, Meta explains why several points in the document of the experts are contradictory and exceed the counseling mission of the delegation.

The Albanian President says the opinion revived the political polarization in a time when it was expected for the parties in Albania to go versus dialogue.

Meta writes that the questions addressed by the Albanian Parliament to the Venice Commission have been a set-up for the Commission.

“The Albanian Parliament, even though apparently addressed eight questions of legal and constitutional nature to the Venice Commission, is interested only for its politic use by setting up undeservedly thje Venice Commission”, Meta writes.

“All the members of the Inquiry Commission have voted through the Parliamentary Resolution for the dismissal of the President since June 13, 2019, which shows that the commission has started its activity with a decision already taken”.
