The Democratic Party (PD) accused Tirana’s Mayor of telling lies about the quality of tap water in the Albanian capital. Tap water in Tirana is contaminated and dangerous to citizens’ health, quite the opposite of Veliaj’s claims. Former Democrat MP Oriola Pampuri said the only investment Veliaj has made for tap water is the continuous raise of its price, a plan he hasn’t renounced yet.

"With the continuous lack of drinkable water, the life conditions in Tirana have worsened during Erion Veliaj’s tenure”, Veliaj said. “Ever since the water system passed completely under Tirana’s Municipality management, the capital is suffering from lack of drinkable water and even worse, the water is contaminated in many families”.

“Unlike the majority of media that Erion Veliaj has bought and controls, the social networks, uncensored by him, show every day the reality of the lack of water in Tirana. Water tank trucks and water containers are symbols of a misgoverned city, without investments and stolen by Erion Veliaj”.

“The illogical mayor of Tirana is responsible for the health of thousands of Tirana residents with his irresponsible declarations that the water running from the taps is safe”.
