The Democratic Party (PD) has denied Albanian President Ilir Meta’s claims about the existence of a plan to burn the Albanian parliament on June 8. Meta said today he decided to postpone the elections of June 30 because he had information about a plan from several individuals to set fire to the parliament.

Speaking for the daily newspaper Panorama, PD’s Secretary General Gazmend Bardhi said such a scenario never existed.

“The Democratic Party and the united opposition never had a plan to burn the institutions, regardless the fact they represent no more the public interest but only the interest of a group of oligarchs and criminals connected to the Prime Minister”, Bardhi said.

“PD invites the media to open their archives of the weeks before June 30 and they’ll find out that the opposition and its leader Lulzim Basha have denounced Edi Rama’s violent scenarios which he intended to use later against PD and the opposition”.

“PD considers the investigative commission for the dismissal of the President as an instrument to cover the scandals of Edi Rama’s illegitimate government, and the members of the commission, characters from the investigative dossiers 184 and 339, as accomplices in the crime of rigging the general and local elections”.
