The inauguration of the new municipal council of Shkodra and mayor-elect Valdrin Pjetri has been cancelled in the wake of documents published by the opposition that proved Pjetri’s conviction in Italy for drugs traffic, followed by his expulsion from the country. Immediately after the Democratic Party showed the documents obtained from the police department of Florence, Italy, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Socialist Party Edi Rama announced the expulsion of Pjetri from the governing party.

The mandate of the incumbent mayor Voltana Ademi officially expires on August 20, but the secretary of the council and the prefect of Shkodra have not set a date for the inauguration of the new municipal council.

Meanwhile Pjetri risks to be arrested on the grounds of “fake declaration and forgery of the official documents”, after he hid his criminal records in the form of the decriminalization.
