The Albanian opposition has requested officially from the Electoral College to suspend giving mandates to the new municipal councils till a verdict by the Constitutional Court on the elections for the local government.

“Without a verdict by the Constitutional Court, the Electoral College has a legal obstacle to deliver the mandates to the one-party municipal councils”, the letter signed by the Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Gazmend Bardhi.

The Law obliges the College not to take a decision without the Constitutional Court ruling first on the constitutionality of the President’s Decree date June 10 that postponed the elections of June 30, which, nevertheless, went ahead as planned previously.
