Former Democratic Party MP Tritan Shehu said the unlawful elections of June 30 were a slap on Premier Edi Rama’s face. Rama decided to go ahead with the elections despite a presidential decree that postponed them. However, the voters boycotted en mass the elections where the Socialist Party candidates had no competition from the opposition.

“The opposition today has an increased support by the electorate and that was proved on June 30 when the citizens boycotted the election, turning it into a shame day”, former foreign minister Shehu told Syri TV.

“Thousands of people did not vote, thousand others made the ballot papers invalid”.

Shehu also commented the ODHIHR report on the elections.

“The essence of the report says that a presidential decree can be overruled only by the Constitutional Court. From that moment, the election is unconstitutional, socialist elections, with only one candidate. The report also says the citizens had no alternatives to choose. The democracy has elections”.
