The Court of Shkodër has decided home arrest for the former Democrat MP Bardh Spahia arrested earlier this week following clashes of the opposition supporters with the police in the north city.

Speaking before the judge, Spahia said his trial was a political process.

“My arrest has a political background. The Court must assess and watch the real evidence”, Spahia said in the courtroom.

The former MP was arrested on June 20 after what the police called “an attack against the polling stations”, while he was going for a TV debate on Top Channel. According to the police, Spahia and five other persons taken into custody had burned a school turned into a polling station in Shkodër, burning also electoral materials that were inside the school.
