Albanian President Ilir Meta has reacted today in relation to the tensed political situation in the country. Through a media release, the President said he had revoked the Decree that had set June 30 as the date of the local elections. In the statement, Meta highlights it is not the time for shows of force, but for maturity and responsibility.
“It’s been ten days since taking effect of the Decree of the President of the Republic for the cancelation of the elections of June 30, with intention of calming down the situation and creating the chances for dialogue that would normalize the political situation and would create the possibility for a new date of the local elections, all inclusive and democratic.
I’d like to emphasize again it is not the time for shows of force, for dividing and provoking rhetoric, but for maturity and high responsibility for the country’s national interests and the continuity of the European integration which is a national goal for all Albanians.
I insist once more in the importance of the dialogue between parties and at the same time in my readiness to contribute for a quick solution”.
