Albanian Premier Edi Rama told the Socialist Party (PS) executive bureau he had expected President Ilir Meta’s decision to cancel the local elections of June 30.

However, Rama reconfirmed his determination to go ahead with the elections as planned.

“We are e parliamentary republic, not a presidential one”, Rama said. “That’s why nothing can stop us from going ahead with June 30. On Thursday we’ll have a very long parliamentary session. Let’s unfold all the arguments against this decision of the president”.

It is understood the Socialist majority will end its parliamentary session with a resolution on the dismissal of the president.

“We must focus on June 30, we are in the middle of the game. After the debate, the issue will be discussed in the Central Elections Commission and later in the Electoral College”, Rama said.
