Albanian Premier Edi Rama caused a big surprise today in a meeting themed Physicians for Albania, where he declared that the Albanian physicians are paid better than their German colleagues.

Trying to explain his statement, Rama said that specialized physicians working outside Tirana are paid a bonus 250 thousand Albanian Lek.

He added the doctors in Albania earn more than those working in Germany after taxes.

“They have salaries that, if we drop the taxes they would pay if they were in Germany, is bigger than in Germany. They have more money remained in their pockets than they would have in Germany”, Rama said.

Meanwhile, the number of the Albanian physicians and nurses that go to work in Germany is so high that the authorities have sounded the alarm that Albania risks remaining without doctors.
