The Court of Tirana has left in remanded custody 50 persons arrested for participation in the opposition protest last Saturday in the Albanian capital.

The Court’s ruling was received with protests by the familiars of the detainees who accused Judge Arben Miço of being an instrument in Premier Edi Rama’s hands.

Former Democrat MP Edmon Spaho said it was a violation of the law and the right to protest is a fundamental right of every citizen.

"We do not expect anything else by Edi Rama’s tools. Saimir Tahiri, charged with drugs traffic, is investigated as a free man whereas who fights for free and fair elections is put in jail. This is a politic trial. (Organizing secretary of PD) Sahit Dollapi was hit with plastic bullets and beaten with batons, have you heard about any arrest? Rama’s end is undisputable”, Spaho said after the court’s decision.
