The Albanian opposition has decided to boycott the municipal and mayoral elections of June 30 and also not to allow the conduction of façade elections only with the participation of the ruling Socialist Party and its allies. Chief of the cabinet of Lulzim Basha, Chairman of the Democratic Party, Doran Teliti, has explained for the television Syri.net the ways the opposition will follow to block the elections.

“The citizens cannot become part of this political farce. We will try to raise their awareness via Democratic means to make impossible for the elections to take place and people not become part of the farce”, Teliti told host Alen Xhelili. “Premier Edi Rama will be in office only for a few days more. The elections of June 30 will become impossible by citizens. The opposition will work intensively to make the citizens aware”.

Teliti repeated the opposition determination to stop elections with Rama as Prime Minister, highlighting there will be neither elections nor negotiations with him in power.

“Rama’s removal from the office of Prime Minister and the negotiations for a transitional government are the two conditions for the opposition to enter the elections. We do not want to win the power on table. Rama has proved he cannot offer free and fair elections. That’s why we want a transitional government to take the country to the elections and let the best win”.
