Four participants in the opposition rally have been remanded in custody while five others will be in home detentions after today’s ruling of the Court of Tirana.

The defendants’ attorney Ivi Kaso said the prosecution had no evidence of his client being involved in any act of violence.

The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party Edmond Spaho said the charges of violating the public order were ridiculous.

“Only the mushroom in the prime ministry yard was destroyed by the protest”, Spaho said, inviting citizens to join the next protest outside the parliament house on Thursday.

“This is an authentic political process that reminds me the trials of the dictatorship”, Spaho said. “There is no evidence to support the charges over destruction of public property and violation of the public order”.

“There is no case of a confrontation between police and the citizens. These are efforts to hold people back from protesting again but it will not work”.
