Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha announced the unanimous decision of the Democrat parliamentary group to give up the mandates and be no longer part of a criminalized parliament.
Basha announced the decision in a press conference in front of media reporters where he listed the motives that pushed his party to go to such an extent.
The Democrat leader explained the decision was based on the will of people who protested against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday. The buy-out of votes in the 2017 elections by the Socialist Party (PS) in collusion with criminal gangs, rampant corruption, government capture of the judiciary system, lack of a functioning Constitutional Court, and violation of human rights were the main reasons pushing the Democrat MPs to resign from their mandates.
The opposition request earlier general elections conducted by a transitional cabinet after Edi Rama’s resignation.
