Former Albanian Premier Sali Berisha supports an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia but without a land swap “which would open the Pandora’s box and would block the integration”. Berisha criticized Premier Edi Rama for his support of the land swap project and told details from former President George W. Bush’s visit to Albania in June 2008, when they talked about the independence of Kosovo.
“The President asked my opinion about a solution for Kosovo”, said Berisha, Prime Minister of Albania at the time.
“Naturally, I defended with all my arguments the idea of independence. Then Mr. Bush asked: When do you think it must be declared? The persons around us thought I would say “immediately”. Instead I said no. I told him “Mr. President, take all the time you need, we would not like to become the apple of discord between You and the European Union. This process must progress, it is known who our friends are and which our destination is”.
