The Democrat Party of Albania (PD) accused Premier Edi Rama and his Socialist Party (PS) of creating a scheme to drag the investigation over former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri hoping to keep him – and themselves later – away from prison.  This was the declaration of the Democrat parliamentary group chairman Edmond Spaho today.

"Edi Rama’s soldier in the conference of the chairpersons rejected the immediate creation of a investigating committee on Saimir Tahiri. Trying to drag again the constitutional right of the opposition to check on the governance, which in this case is co-governance with the criminal groups, the Socialist Party requested more time to get acquainted to our request for an investigative committee”, Spaho said.

“After stalling the parliamentary investigation one Saimir Tahiri’s and Edi Rama’s acts for nearly a year, by not putting any documents at our disposal, they requested to get acquainted to the changes we introduced in our request for the investigative committee, date February 1, 2019”.

Spaho explained that the opposition’s requests are not essential, because they have to do “with the investigation time, to make it from six to three months; the MP’s number to change from 9 to 11; and with narrowing the time period for which he will be investigated, from undefined to 2014-2018”.
