The Socialist majority has decided to change the regulation of the Albanian parliament concerning the cases when the police request the arrest of MPs or cabinet ministers.
The draft presented by the majority in the Committee of Laws has caused debates between Socialist and opposition deputies.
Democrat MP Enkelejd Alibeaj said the Socialist majority is afraid of the arrests and is making preventive efforts by changing the Regulation.
"The changes in the Regulation must be examined by the Council of Mandates and the Regulation, not the Committee of Laws. In the best case, this is a lapseâ, Alibeaj said. âYou want to approve it by violating a 30-year tradition of the parliament. Now I am convinced this is not a lapse and I want to know why. You want to return the immunity of the deputies. By the way, whose turn is it? Who is scared? You are returning the immunity armor to protect your deputies from penal prosecutionâ.
