The Albanian government was forced to cancel the project of the road Thumanë-Kashar, the most discussed concessionary project following the scandal of Tirana’s new ring road. The new Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, said in a press conference that the government has decided to interrupt the proceedings of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Company Gener 2 that had earned the contract for the construction of the road.

It is the concession that has caused more debates due to its record cost. The road length is only 20 kilometers but its total cost, including the interests the government would pay Gener2, reached as much as €370 million, which is €18.5 million per kilometer, establishing a record not only for Albania.

The concession was blocked after the scandal for Tirana’s new ring road was revealed, with the contracting company DH Albania resulting to have forged papers to win the contract.

Media published fact linking DH Albania to Gener 2, which made the government to cancel the project.
