Former Albanian Premier Sali Berisha has hailed the decision of the teachers of the Faculty of History and Philology to go on strike full time in support of their students’ demands and opposing the anti-constitutional decisions of the government and Edi Rama’s anti-constitutional and dictatorial draft of proposed law.

“With these decisions and this dictatorial draft, in flagrant violation of the Articles 57 and 58 of the Constitution, Rama executes and buries definitely the autonomy of the universities and their academic freedom sanctioned in the Constitution of Albania in the abovementioned articles”, Berisha writes.

“In this way, the universities transform from temples of knowledge, science, scientific search and creation into mere party schools”.

“I’d like to hail the one-day strike of the Faculty of History and Philology and I appeal to the students, teachers, assistants, in respect of their dignity and integrity, to protect with any price the autonomy of the universities and their academic freedom as vital conditions for the existence of these institutions”.

Berisha also appealed to the Albanian citizens to support the academic world which is crucial for the future of the Albanian society.
