Albanian President Ilir Meta has rejected Premier Edi Rama’s candidature for the post of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj.
Meta has listed a number of arguments that made him decide not to decree the new minister.
The President said Albania is facing important developments in the international arena and that demands a Foreign Minister with big diplomatic experience.
Also, Meta has considered Cakaj as “irresponsible” during his tenure as vice minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and unequipped in time with the security certificate, which was a risk for the national security.
In addition, Meta wrote that “Cakaj’s public stance in the context of the debate for the so-called borders correction between Kosovo and Serbia is in full contrast with the program of the current government for the foreign policy”.
