Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha called on the Socialist majority today to pass the law that opens the way of vetting for the politicians.

Basha said separating the politics from crime is the way out of Albania from the swamp it has plunged into, adding the opposition is ready to vote all the majority’s proposals for the vetting of politics should the Venice Commission agree.

“Persons with criminal records have been brought to this hall by the leader of the Renaissance as deputies; many have become Mayors”, Basha said in the parliament. “Rama’s alliance with crime caused chaos in the country. Today we have soldiers of crime at the helm of state and the parliament”.

“Crime has taken over the government, criminals decide on everything. Today the opposition offers the vetting for politics, the same standard that was applied for the police and prosecutors. The measures we propose today will not succeed as long as politics is not separated from crime. No reform will succeed, neither the electoral reform, as long as the judiciary system has not sent any politician behind bars”.

“The Venice Commission has asked you to sit with the opposition and work for the law on vetting of the politicians to pass consensually. You do not want the vetting, because it would be the end of the political career for many of you”, Basha told the majority deputies in the parliament.
