Former Premier Sali Berisha said his successor Edi Rama is closing the door to Albania’s integration into EU following the latest moves of the temporary General Prosecutor Arta Marku, which decided to transfer the prosecutors of the cases of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, current Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj’s brother Agron Xhafaj, and infamous criminal with links to politicians Emiliano Shullazi.

“These are the cases that are holding hostage the European destiny of every Albanian citizen”, Berisha writes on his Facebook page.

“The meltdown of the Prosecution for Serious Crimes, the anti-constitutional relocations and promotions of the prosecutors of the cases of Tahiri, Xhafaj, and Shullazi, are fatal blows to the possibility of opening the negotiations with EU next December”.

“I appeal to Albanian youth and citizens, to the media, academic world, students and civil society not to accept that the interests of the Mafioso families Rama, Xhafaj and Tahiri block again and probably for good our European perspective”.
