Chief of the Albanian opposition Lulzim Basha met German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas who is making a tour in the Balkans. The press office of the Democratic Party (PD) said Basha expressed the concern of his party and the opposition about the state’s capture by the organized crime, which has reached huge dimensions in the recent year due to connections to the politicians in power.

Referring to the conditions set in the Sofia Summit, Basha considered the connection of politics to crime as the biggest obstacle on Albania’s way to the EU integration and as a threat to the country’s stability.

The Democrat leader said the opposition is ready to continue with its contribution for the implementation of the Judiciary Reform based on the principles of respecting the Constitution.

Basha reconfirmed the Albanian opposition’s stance against borders change in the Balkans, thanking German Chancellor Merkel and her government for the clear position related to this issue.
