The Democratic Party (PD) called on Albanian Premier Edi Rama to fire the Mayor of Tepelenë, Tërmet Peçi after he was shown on video singing a song dedicated to former communist dictator Enver Hoxha.
The Democrat Deputy of the county of Tepelenë has also asked the Prosecution Office to indict him for law infringement.
In an official dinner for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Tepelenë, Peçi hailed Hoxha and sang to his memory.
“In the capacity of the county’s representative, I request from the Prime Minister to dismiss immediately Mayor of Tepelenë, Tërmet Peçi”, Shehu said. “Also, the Prosecution should act against him for an infringement of the law”.
“I appeal to the public opinion, media and the associations of the political prosecuted to condemn this real shame and scandal”.
“It’s a real challenge to the law and democracy; an offence to our democratic processes; a limitless arrogance against the former political prosecuted and the people that paid so dearly the cruel dictatorship. What would happen in Germany or Italy had a Mayor praised Hitler or Mussolini during an official ceremony? Can you answer to this question Mr. Prime Minister”?
