The Democratic Party of Albania (PD) has published a letter addressed to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg concerning the problem of property compensation and what’s happening with it in the country.  PD warned ECHR that Edi Rama’s Socialist government was expropriating the rightful owners for a second time in favour of enriching a group of persons dubbed as “the new owners”.

The vice chairwoman of the parliamentary Committee of Economu Jorida Tabaku told media reporters that “representatives of the Albanian government, in the name of and directly inspired by Premier Rama, have tried to influence on the decision of ECHR over the revision of the Law of Property Return and Compensation”.

“Such efforts are not only shameful and offensive for a government that plays the tunes of the Justice Reform, but it is mostly the most significant act of what Rama and his government represent. The policy followed by the Albanian government has never been for the solution of the property problem. Rama’s government is committed to a second expropriation of the owners for the sake of the enrichment of a group of persons, “the new owners’, who are actually illegitimate usurpers of the property”.
