The Democratic Party (PD) has “reminded” to the Prosecution Office that Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj should have been indicted for hiding the truth following the explosion of a gas cylinder in one of municipal nursery schools on the early hours of Thursday.

Democrat MP Gent Strazimiri told media reporters Veliaj helped hide the evidence and has been personally involved in lying the public opinion by saying the explosion took place in another building.

“The scandalous event of the gas cylinder explosion in one of Tirana’s nursery schools removed the propaganda lustre and revealed the real Erion Veliaj, the one that not everybody knows: a corrupt fraud that does not spare even toddlers for the sake of power. Erion Veliaj continues to remain silent about the terrible event in the nursery school 51 in Tirana, where the powerful explosion, luckily, took place in a time when no one is there”, Strazimir said.

“He ordered the elimination of every proof of the criminal responsibility of Tirana’s Municiplaity for the explosion. He ordered his dependants to lie to the worried parents, telling them the nursery school has not been using gas. But the TV images and reports of the reporters in the place showed that the explosion took place inside the nursery school and the parents spoke about strong smell of gas”.

“Had the Prosecution Office not been under the government’s control, Erion Veliaj should be in prison as responsible for the manipulation and hiding of truth, in other words obstruction of justice”.
