As of yesterday, the Constitutional Court of Albania has ceased to exist, remaining without members after the dismissal of Judge Altina Xhoxhaj.

It looks like a well-calculated move aiming to leave the country without a Constitutional Court and no institution to evaluate the decisions of Edi Rama’s government.

Former Premier Sali Berisha called it an “anti-constitutional coup by the narco-state of Edi Rama”.

“The elimination of the Constitutional Court is an anti-constitutional coup of Edi Rama and his narco-state”, Berisha wrote on his Facebook page.

“As of yesterday, Albania does not have a Constitutional Court, the responsible organ to guarantee the Constitution and the freedom and rights of the Albanian citizens. This is a macabre act from Edi Rama, who, after becoming head judge and general prosecutor, used the vetting to bring down the last constitutional institution that was not depended from him”.

“Today, all the executive, judiciary and legislative powers – just like in the darkest days of the dictatorship – are in the hands of a chief criminal that knows no norms, limits or standards for his personal power”.
