Albanian Premier Edi Rama will pay a two-day visit in Berlin where he will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The meeting will focus on the expectations for a positive decision concerning the start of the negotiations for Albania’s membership in the European Union.

In the second day of his visit, Rama will visit Bundestag, the institution that will decide whether the negotiations will take place. A session of talks with the Bundestags Foreign Committee has been planned, which is chaired by Günther Krichbaum, the German MP that has been in the center of the new confrontation between Rama and Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha.

Basha accused Rama of funding a denigrating campaign against Krichbaum, with Rama denying the allegations.

“Günther Krichbaum is neither my friend nor an admirer of our government and Socalist Party. I do not share his opinion about the job of my government and he knows this, because he heard it from me, eye to eye and not behind his back. However, the gentleman in question has all my respect for the help he offered when you blocked the Judiciary Reform and neither he nor any foreigner interested in Albania has ever been the target of an attack orchestrated by my or by the Socialist Party. Never”, Rama responded to Basha.
