Albanian President Ilir Meta said the community has the right to hold the government accountable for the decision it takes. President Meta spoke about the protests against the new highway toll imposed by the government, which was considered as very expensive for the pockets of the residents of the area. According to the president, the protests “enhance the feeling of the government being accountable before the citizens”.

“I hope in a reflection from the government. My message was and remains clear. The opposition has all the possibilities to use all the ways to enhance the parliamentary control and the majority must be interested in dialogue with the citizens”, Meta told media reporters today.

The President appealed to avoid any motive for “unnecessary tensions and conflict that serve no one, neither the citizens, nor the good governance or democracy”.
