Albanian Premier Edi Rama said the protest of the residents of Kukës, Tropojë, Has and neighbouring Kosovo against the new highway toll is legitimate and the new toll will not be applied before finding the best solution for the area. Hundreds of protesters blocked the highway that connects Albania with Kosovo and burned the toll booths put by the concessionaire that will collect the toll.

Rama was speaking in front of the Socialist deputies in the parliament today, whereas the opposition boycotted the session after Speaker Gramoz Ruçi rejected the request to postpone it to the afternoon hours.

The Prime Minister accused the opposition of not being motivated by the problem created by the imposition of the toll, but “it is motivated to benefit from this moment of legitimate discontent”.

Despite calling the discontent as legitimate, still 11 protesters are behind bars for the participation in the legitimate protest.
