Families of arrested protesters have blocked the street in front of Tirana’s Police Department, demanding the release of the detainees. 23 persons were arrested by police following a violent protest with the participation of citizens from Kukës, Has, Tropojë and Kosovo against a new highway toll imposed on the Road of the Nation, the highway that connects Albania to Kosovo.
The protesters demanded the cancelation of the toll and clashed with the police forces, setting fire on toll booths, prompting Premier Edi Rama to call them “vandals”.
The familiars of the 23 arrested have been staying in front of Tirana PD since Sunday, blocking the traffic before the police station.
