Mimi Kodheli, chairwoman of the parliamentary Commission for the Foreign Affairs, said Albanian President Ilir Meta and the commission members “agreed on the absolute necessity that the agreement with Greece over maritime borders should not fail, especially for the historic moment Albania is passing through, the need to open negotiations with the European Union”.
"I’d like to thank the President for his personal engagement to inform the Commission for Foreign Affairs concerning his authorization for the start of the negotiations with the Greek government, which had remained suspended for years”, Kodheli told media reporters after the meeting with the President. “We, as representatives of the majority, are interested to pass the agreement to the parliament”.
“We agreed on the absolute necessity that the agreement with Greece over maritime borders should not fail, especially for the historic moment Albania is passing through, the need to open negotiations with the European Union; these elements make it the most important agreement between Greek and Albanian governments”.
