A former high official of the Albanian police has been released after four months in prison. The Court of the Serious Crimes decided to change the security measure for Haki Hasanbegaj to house arrest till the conclusion of the investigations.

According to the Court’s rule, Hasanbegaj has health problems and his release from prison does not risk the gathering of evidence from the prosecution. The Prosecution of the Serious Crimes also agreed with the change of the security measure.

The former chief of the public order police in Vlora’s Police Department was arrested in February, accused of cultivation of narcotic plants within the framework of an organized criminal group. According to the accusation, he allowed and favoured drug cultivators in the area of Tepelena and Vlora.
