Former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri released from prison on home detention curfew

Former Albanian Minister of the Interior Saimir Tahiri has been released from prison today. The decision was made today by Judge Matilda Fetahu who released Tahiri on home detention curfew.

The Appellation Court for Serious Crimes sentenced Tahiri to five years in prison on February 4 2022, which was reduced to 3 years and four months after a short trial.

The infamous Interior Minister was charged with “Corruption of high officials”, “Traffic of narcotics in cooperation” and “Participation in a structured criminal group” but was found not guilty on these charges and guilty only on “Abuse of office”.

Tahiri will serve the rest of his sentence at home.
