Prosecutors Vladimir Mara and Dritan Prenci requested a prison sentence of 12 years for former Minister of the Interior Saimir Tahiri and former director of Vlora police department Jaeld Çela today at the Special Court of Appeals.
Tahiri showed up at the court in the company of his attorney Maks Haxhia, with Çela also being in the courtoom, after turning in a few days ago after a long period at large.
The Prosecution requested 12 years of imprisonment over charges of international traffic of narcotics. Both Tahiri and Çela have requested the drop of charges and declared not guilty. Six month ago, the first level of the Court for Serious Crimes declared them guilty over abuse of office while the Prosecution was charging them with drugs international traffic.
Tahiri’s sentence was converted to 3.5 years of probation, whereas Çela’s was sentenced with 5 years in prison.
