The tension is high in Tirana, as the participants in the opposition protest have surrounded the Ministry of the Interior. Many of them have passed the fence and have entered in the Ministry yard, throwing water and smoke bombs towards the building.
There are added forces of police and tense moments, as the protesters request the resignation of the Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj for his links to crime and drugs traffic.
Xhafaj’s brother, Agron, has been sentenced to seven years and two months in prison by an Italian court in 2012 for his involvement in international drug traffic. However he stayed free in Albania thanks to the protection from his brother, a prominent member and MP of the Socialist Party, former Minister of Justice and currently Interior Minister.
