The Prosecution for Serious Crimes has offered witness protection to Albert Veliu, aka the Witness X, but he has refused it, saying he is not feeling in danger.
Veliu is a former convict which has served his sentence in Italy for drug traffic and tapped a conversation with the Interior Minister’s brother Agron Xhafaj, which proved Xhafaj is still leading the drug traffic from Vlora to Italy. The wiretapped conversation became public by the Democratic Party.
In an interview after the publication, Veliu said he felt threatened after the chief of Vlora’s criminal police had paid a visit to Veliu’s son in his place of work.
However, the Prosecution for Serious Crimes said Veliu refused the protection, but the police will keep him under surveillance.
