Albania was the nation with the highest number of European asylum seekers in the EU during 2016, according to a report of EUROSTAT. Even though the number has decreased to half, still the number of asylum seekers from Albania remains the highest.
According to EUROSTAT data, 28.925 Albania nationals sought asylum for the first time in the European Union during 2006, followed by Russians with 23 thousand, Ukraine 11.090 and Turkey with 10.100 asylum seekers.
Germany and France remain the favourite places for Albanian asylum seekers, with 14.855 and 6.850 requests respectively. Nearly 1300 Albanian citizens sought asylum in Greece, while UK, The Netherlands and Sweden are among favourite destinations as well.
