It is the first time in the 27 years of politic pluralism in Albania that a clergyman will become part of the governing cabinet. Toni Gogu, the protestant pastor that married Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj to Ajola Xoxa, has been appointed vice minister of Justice.
Gogu is a prominent pastor among protestant believers in Tirana. Earlier he worked as a director in the Bank of Albania, in the sector of deposits.
The pastor could not resist the temptation to become a part of the Renaissance and, probably unawarely, he’s become initiator of a new practice.
After Gogu’s appointment, there will be no surprise if we see priests or imams as member of the government.
