The new session of the parliamentary Committee of National Security has started with debates over the big concern that is created over the increasing phenomenon of the violence in the family, and also for the organized criminal gangs, which have attacked the police in five cases only recently.

The Director General of Police of Order and Public Safety in the State Police, Altin Qato, was reporting in front of the Committee.

Democrat deputy Flamur Noka made strong accusations to the state police, saying Albania is a transit hub of drugs. “The Albania that is a transit hub of strong drugs cannot have a credible police”, former interior minister Noka said.

“High police officials have been involved in cannabis traffic. Others have been fired with requests of the US Embassy. If you continue to keep police connected to crime, you’ll rot and degrade it. What I said earlier is not based on suppositions. Statements of the Prosecution Office and intelligence service speak about officials of state police that are connected to drugs”.

LSI deputy Endrit Brahimllari asked about the measures police are taking to prevent the violence in the families.

Qato answered “we are examining the cases and study the intervention. But the police only are not enough. Partnership among other actors is needed as well”.
