Media close to the Prime Minister accused the technical director of the Albanian Power Corporation (KESH), appointed by the Democratic Party (PD), in July, of not signing the fund of €22.4 million to import energy, because the domestic production had reached its lowest point.

Edi Rama played the role of the “saviour”, by “signing” the above mentioned fund for August. But eight days have gone already from the start of the month, the dry spell has dried the lakes and paralyzed the country’s hydropower plants and the money for buying power is showing nowhere. This is because the €22.4 million fund Rama signed is in fact a loan requested to the World Bank, which is not opening way to credit it.

Currently, the domestic production provides less than 20% of the country’s needs and the figure is getting lower every day proportionally with the drought. Official sources from KESH said two days ago that the WB has not been responding for the use of the money to buy power, despite the talks have been going on for nearly 20 days. KESH says it will start immediately to import power as soon as it takes the go ahead from the WB.
