Head of the Democratic parliamentary group Edi Paloka has been sentenced with a fine of 500 thousand Leks from the High Court, after he was found guilty for the accusation of slander against former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri. Paloka accused Tahiri as the author of the country’s cannabisation.

After the court rule, Paloka said it was a decision under the influence of Premier Edi Rama.

“In a time when the public opinion, Albanian and international, points the finger to Rama’s government and directly to Saimir Tahiri as the authors of Albania’s cannabisation and connections to crime, when even Fatmir Xhafaj, the minister that replaced Tahiri pointed his finger to Tahiri, the High Court, put under pressure from Tahiri’s boss, takes such decisions”, Paloka said.

“This is the reason why we don’t and will not allow the justice to remain in Rama’s or any other politician’s hands. Breaking government’s criminal connections is one of the main reasons why we protested and managed to establish the technical government. Democrats’ victory on June 25th will be the closure of the old republic and the dawn of what all Albanians are waiting for, the New Republic”.
