Resident Representative of IMF Resident Mission in Albania Jens Reinke said yesterday Albania continues to be a country of informal economy, the biggest part of which is occupied by illicit activities, including the cannabis cultivation.

“We do not have figures, but many observers agree that Albania has an informal economy, which consists of several aspects”, Reinke told the television Top Channel.

“A part of it may be merely tax evasion, however, like in any country else, there are illegal activities and some of the international partners say this has become more intensive. I cannot say much about the really illegal part. We all read the news about cannabis, and also about other illegal activities, but they are not included in the economic statistics and we cannot promote them”.
