President of Albania Bujar Nishani has decreed today the date of partial local elections in Kavaja.

The citizens will vote on 7 May 2017 for the new Mayor of Kavaja, after Elvis Rroshi’s mandate was removed from the Central Electoral Commission (KQZ) last December.

The Constitutional Court ruled yesterday that KQZ’s decision was conform to the Constitution, making Rroshi’s dismissal official.

After the decision was announced, the President had 48 hours to decree the date for the new elections, which should be held within 45 days.
