The Association Çamëria and the Party for Justice, Integrity and Unity (PDIU) organized a protest rally today outside the Embassy of Greece in Tirana against the agreement between Greece and Albania to abolish the name Çamëria (Chameria) from the Albanian schoolbooks.

Hundreds of protesters joined under the motto “Chameria will not fade away, because we’re alive and standing…”.

Referring to the latest meeting of the bilateral commission for the revision of the school texts, on January 18, 2018, and quoted by the website militaire.gr, the Greek Foreign Minister writes that “the Greek side insisted on abolishing the chapter “Albanian sites in Greece”, which is unacceptable and offensive”.

He also requested the removal of references and maps where Greek geographic areas are introduced as Chameria, which proves that the Albanian state has remained caught in nationalist anachronistic concepts, which, first of all, harm Albania.
