Albanian Premier Edi Rama and the minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu have hidden a macabre crime, the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha wrote in his Facebook page. Berisha added such a monstrosity has happened only in the 1970s.

Berisha was referring to the news of the deaths of ten newborn babies in the maternity hospital “Koço Gliozheni” in Tirana in the first ten days of January. According to Berisha, a former cardiologist, this means the infant mortality rate is 100 per 1000 live births, probably the world highest.

“Keeping it hidden is the most shocking and criminal act of Rama and Manastirliu, which, this inhumane act show their beastly feelings by which they keep their chairs”, Berisha wrote.

“The response of the institution to the public exposure from the Democrat MP Spahia was criminal-like. I’d like to recall that in the early ‘70s, an epidemic in the same maternity hospital took the lives of tens of newborn babies and the regime of dictator Enver Hoxha kept it hidden as a state secret”.

“I appeal to the World Health Organization and UNICEF to bring urgently their teams in Albania to discover the real causes of the almost massive deaths of infants in the main maternity hospital of the country”.
